How to Copy DVD’s Quick and Easy

Copying or backing up DVD’s can seem like a chore, what with all that expensive software you really don’t know you should pay for. Well there is a solution and its FREE. It’s called DVD Shrink and it has been around for a while, its just that many people never heard of it.

In this Tutorial I’ll show you how easy it is to back up a DVD using DVD Shrink. You’ll be ripping, shrinking, and burning (which may sound like a lot but it’ll take seconds to do) in no time.

Software Required

  • DVD Shrink (Download) (Home)
  • A program that will burn DVD files (such as Nero)

Step 1

Put the DVD you wish to copy in your computer and open DVD Shrink. The top toolbar will have a few buttons, press the first one – Open Disc.

Select the appropriate drive and hit OK.

The disc will load, to make things quicker you can un-tick Enable video preview

Step 2

Once the disc has been opened you will see a list of what the disc contains in DVD Shrink. Certain things can be un-ticked to make compression smaller (and raise the Quality of the movie).

Now push the Backup button.

A new window will open, from here you can back the files up to a location on your Hard Drive, or if you have Nero, you can burn them to a DVD.

If you don’t have Nero you can burn the files with another program like Convert-X-to-DVD or Roxio. Most DVD Burners come with a copy of Nero.

And that is it!

How to Use uTorrent’s IP Filter

uTorrent is one of the best bittorrent clients out there, but many don’t know that uTorrent has a built-in IP Filtering tool! This tool is very hand for many reasons. In this tutorial I will show you how to enable it and add lists.

Programs Required

Step 1

Open up uTorrent and go to OptionsPreferences (or alternatively press CTRL+P).

On the left toolbar click Advanced.

A long list will appear. Scroll down until you find ipfilter.enable and set it to True

Now that the IP Filter has been turned on, close uTorrent.

Step 2

All that is left to do is to locate a Blocklist (a list of IP’s which you want Filtered). The best place on the web to get them is at Bluetack.

Through that link you will find a list of lists (lol), you want either the “nipfilter.dat.gz” (recommended) or the “pipfilter.dat.gz”. The nipfilter stands for “Normal IP Filter”, and the pipfilter of course stands for “Paranoid IP Filter”.

Once you selected your desired list and have downloaded it, extract (uncompress) it to a temporary folder. You can extract it with WinRAR if you’re not sure what to use.

The resulting file should be called “ipfilter” or “ipfilter.dat” if you have extensions viewable. Right click and Cut this file.

Now browse to this location on your hard drive:

C:\Documents and Settings\Usernamee\Application Data\uTorrent

(Replace the red characters with the appropriate ones)

You want to paste the file in that folder (/uTorrent). Overwrite if prompted.

To ensure that everything worked, open uTorrent and click on the Logger tab. It should read “Loaded ipfilter.dat (xxx entries).

If so then everything worked!

Remember to keep you list up to date for optimal protection.

Convert AVI to DVD Fast and Easy

VSO Convert-X-to-DVD, A Quick and Easy Guide for .AVI to DVD

How To Create a DVD out of .avi Files using VSO

Software Required

Step 1:
Start up VSO, Start New Project if needed, then go to “Add Video File”

Browse for the files that you want to make into a DVD, it can be more then one.

Step 2:

Now that you have your video files go to “Settings – General”
Go to the “Chapters” tab. Here you can set when you want the chapters to be made (example, every 5 Minutes)

Now go to the Burning Tab. Choose your DVD Burner (if needed). I set mine to burn at 4x (which I also reccomend for a non-skip result).

Step 3:

Now you’re ready to add a Title and Menu Image.
Click the expand arrow to see a list of options on the main screen.
To change the title click the arrow next to it and Type in Desired Name.
Click on the arrow next to Background to change picture.
To View the picture, look to the right and you’ll see a little TV, click that.

You can Also change the video’s titles as well and change the fonts used on the titles.

Step 4:
Now that you got everthing as you want it, hit CONVERT and let it go. You will be prompted to put in a DVD, if you haven’t already, when converting is done. Or you may choose to Just save the result .VOB’s and burn them later with VSO or your favorite Burning Software.
